Erma Cory of Platte Woods, MO died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 79 on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Born Erma Nell Harris to Essie and Roy Harris in Damascus, Arkansas in 1937, she moved to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 20. She married, raised three daughters in Brentwood, NY, and moved to Kansas City in 1979.
In April of 1987 Erma married Larry Cory and moved to Platte Woods, MO.
In addition to raising her children, Erma also worked for several banks, retiring from The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City after 28 years of service.
Erma was a two time breast cancer survivor who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, literature, traveling and had an eclectic taste in music. She surrounded herself with nature, feeding the local birds, small creatures, caring for her cats, and her dog Molly.
She is survived by her loving husband Larry, daughters Joann Hiebert and husband Garry, Patricia Irvin and husband Johnny, Lisa Koehler and husband Jerry, and grandson Michael Hiebert, cousin Charlene Battles, and sister-in-law Janet Harris. She is preceded in death by her brothers Gerald and Jimmy Harris. She is remembered with love by stepson Donald Cory and wife Wilma, stepdaughters DeAnna Meredith and husband Charlie, and Kim Cory, seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016, at 2 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO.
