Erma Audsley

Erma Lee (Haywood) Audsley passed away October 31, 2011, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Gashland United Presbyterian Church, 8029 N. Oak Tfwy., Kansas City, Mo., followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Dewitt, Carroll County, Mo. Erma Lee was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Busby, a rural farming community in west Texas near Sweetwater. After high school graduation, she worked as a Western Union operator in Galveston, New Orleans and Kansas City, where she met her future husband, Joseph F. Audsley, whom she married Sept. 12, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Everett and Pommie Mae Haywood, her sisters, Frances McCullough and Ivy Mae Hurst, and brother, Royce Haywood. She is survived by her husband, Joe, son, Larry (wife Donna) Audsley, daughter, Nancy (husband Merle) Davidson, grandchildren, Scott Audsley, Laura Audsley, Daniel Davidson, Mark Davidson, and great granddaughter, Kyla Davidson. Lee, as she was known to friends, had a career as a legal secretary in the 1960s and 70s, but home and family were her greatest sources of joy, and she instilled in her own children the importance of maintaining good family relationships. She enjoyed preparing meals for the family, sewing and visiting with friends and family. During their retirement years, Joe and Lee tutored school children through Youth Friends in the North Kansas City School District. Lee was well-suited to volunteer work of this kind as she was naturally gentle and patient with children. She also enjoyed traveling, and Joe and Lee made many trips to visit their children and grandchildren in Texas and Arizona.Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 N.W. 108th Street; Kansas City, MO.
