Elston O. Pack 88 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29th at Terrace Park Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with a Graveside Service at 2 p.m. in the Terrace Park Memorial Cemetery.
Elston was born on February 6, 1932 in St Charles, Missouri. He was the third child of Paul Henry Pack and Virginia Thompson Pack. He was predeceased by all his siblings, Laverne Opal Rice (Charles), Geneva Sontag (Jack) Henry, Viola Sanders (Arthur), Helen Rippstein (Otto), Marvin Pack, Myrna Held Cunningham Smith and one precious great grandson, Jackson Lamb. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Marge after 33 years of marriage.
Elston once lived in a log house and attended a rural one room schoolhouse. In the 7th grade he attended schools in Chamois, Missouri. He worked at various jobs and for two years he was on a riverboat on the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. He attended Barber school in 1953 and he owned City Barbershop in Independence, Missouri for 15 years. After the barbershop, he bought a hardware store in Smithville, Missouri and for 35 years he built that business until his retirement. The Packs Hardware Store continues operation to this day under new ownership. He was a lifelong Christian who lived out his faith in a genuine way and put his faith foremost in his life over all that he did. Elston also enjoyed working on old cars and supplemented his income by restoring collectible cars and he especially loved old Thunderbird cars.
Elston married Marjorie Ann Alston in 1951 in Wallhalla, South Carolina on May 14th, 1951. Together they had Barbara Jane Bollinger and Duane Elston Pack (Glenda). Elston married Gloria Johnson in 1985 on August 17th. Gloria has three children, Steven Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson (Tammy) and Tammy Hoyer Pearson (Kirk). Elston has six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Because of his Christian faith, the family suggested memorials to Northland Cathedral Benevolence Fund in Elston’s honor. Northland Cathedral, 101 NW 99th St, Kansas City MO 64155.
