Elizabeth DeSuza

August 9, 1922 — March 18, 2011

Elizabeth Lopez DeSuza, age 88 of Kansas City North, MO passed away peacefully and went to heaven to join our Lord on March 18, 2011.  She was born in Conroe, TX on August 9, 1922 to Benito and Agripina Lopez.  She was a member of Claycomo Baptist Church, where she was the church pianist.  Elizabeth started teaching piano at the age of 16 and retired after 60 years of teaching and mentoring thousands of students.  She graduated from Wyandotte HS, Kansas City, KS in 1939.  She was preceded in death by her parents and was the last of seven siblings.  A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 52 years, Eugene DeSuza; her five children Priscilla Winters of Kansas City, MO, George McGriff of Springfield, MO, Venita Finch of Auburndale, FL, Samuel McGriff, Sr. of Kansas City, MO and John DeSuza of Kansas City, MO; 2 sisters-in law, Nacha Lopez and Maria Lopez; 56 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Elizabeth was a true humanitarian placing Cuban refugees with sponsors through churches and hosting foreign exchange students.  She was an avid bowler with a quick wit who never knew a stranger.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, March 21 at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park.  A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park at 10 am on Tuesday, March 22; officiating is Reverend Scott Gordon of Claycomo Baptist Church.  Interment at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery following services.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Research Institute, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway, Ste. 1802, NewYork, NY 10006 or Claycomo Baptist Church, 312 E.
