Elaine Smith

Elaine Halcyon Smith, 96, of Lake Waukomis, Missouri, passed away at home, on Friday, October 20, 2017. Elaine was born August 2, 1921, to Charles and Mary (Halcyon) Fleming, in Denton County, Texas. During World War II, Elaine worked as a Chief Clerk at Big Spring Bombardier School, where she also got her pilots license. She also worked as a stenographer in the Officers’ Training School in VA, and checked pilots in at Love Field in Dallas, TX.   In November 1957 she married William N. Smith. The couple loved to travel. Elaine experienced many joys during her life like; golfing fishing, painting, reading, and also ballroom and square dancing. But her greatest joy was having her three children, and spending time with her family and friends.  She was a member of the Art and Literary Club, the Symphony Guild, and the Red Hat Club.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 30 years, and two brothers; Jack and Charles Fleming.

She is survived by her two daughters; Melissa (Dale) Keller, of Sandy, UT, and Michele (Keith) Hodge, of Leawood, KS, and her son Michael Smith, of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves three grandchildren; Lauren and Elizabeth Rowel, and Liam McGuire.

Graveside services will be Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. There will also be a Celebration of Life at 1:00PM at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS.
