Wayne Couch, 91, of Kansas City, MO, died Friday, August 20, 2021 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born on January 5, 1930, ½ mile east of Westville, MO in Chariton County to Jesse W. Couch and Mary Jane (Slaughter) Couch. He had three siblings: Vernor Couch, William Couch, and Velma Couch Billups.
Wayne served in the Navy from 1948-1952 during the Korean War, traveling to Korea, Japan, and China on the hospital ship, the USS Repose.
In 1953, Wayne married Oretha Canon. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Monday, August 23, 2021. They were blessed with the births of their three sons: Jerald David Couch (Sandra), Michael Lloyd Couch (Laura), and Russell Dwane Couch (Joneen).
Wayne was a foreman in the hydraulics division of TWA for 30 years, then later worked for Stuppy’s for 14 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, a member of the American Legion Post 370, and a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his grandson, Kevin. He is survived by his wife, Oretha; sons: Jerry, Mike, and Russ; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 25 from 10-11am at Terrace Park Funeral Home, with services to follow at 11am. A family burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in memory of Wayne.
