Dorothy Maddox

April 2, 1925 — November 30, 2018

Dorothy Virginia (Olendorff) Maddox, 93, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.  Following a private burial, a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 17th at 2:00 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas. Dorothy was born in Howard County, Missouri on April 2, 1925 to Aloyius “Alos” and Jesse Lorene (Thorton) Olendorff.  Dorothy grew up in Howard County and attended Gilliam High School and Slater High School, graduating from Slater High School. She lived in Glasgow, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Myrl E. Maddox.   They were married on December 24, 1949.  Dorothy spent her working career as a cartographer for Army Map Service.   After retiring, Dorothy and Myrl enjoyed splitting their time between North Kansas City, Missouri and Cocoa Beach, Florida.  They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.  Following the death of her husband, Dorothy moved to Topeka to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.  Although she was characterized by a reserved and humble nature, her self-sacrifices and perseverance underscored her role as “Number One Supporter” for each member of the family. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary, her brother, Raymond F. “Oley” Olendorff, and many close relatives and friends.  She is survived by one son John (Karen), and two grandchildren, Geoff (Memphis, Tennessee) and Nicole (Topeka).  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kansas Family Stroke Foundation.
