Doris W. Dohrn

Doris W. Dohrn, 92, passed away on October 25, 2024 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents: Phinous and Emma Jones; and three siblings: a year old brother, Louie Don; sister, Patsy (Robert) Croft,, and brother, Larry (Judy) Jones.

Doris was born on September 5, 1932, in Gravelly, Arkansas to Phinous and Emma Jones. Growing up on a farm, she was often in charge of watching her little sister, Patsy, while her parents picked cotton and did other chores. During World War II her family moved to Kansas City, MIssouri where she attended Yeager school in 1945. They moved back to Gravelly where she attended and graduated from Fouche Valley High School in 1949. 

After moving back to Kansas City, Doris got a job filling orders in the catalog department of Sears and Roebuck. She ended up working for Sears for 9 years. Doris met Harold Dohrn at the Pla-Mor Ballroom. They married on August 9,1957 at Winnwood Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and spent their honeymoon in Winnipeg, Canada. Doris and Harold were married for 45 years before Harold passed away in 2003. 

Doris loved her family and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling and appreciated nature - collecting rocks and seashells while on vacations.

In her final years, Doris was known for her smile which lit up her face and encouraged many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her loving children: Kathy (Wil) Castro, Ronald (Kathy) Dohrn; grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, Elayna, Austin, and Megan; great grandchildren: Palmer and Xavier; as well as her sister: Linda Loyd; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief.
