Cooley E. Miller, born January 4, 1924, to Lottie Simpson Miller and Daniel Day Miller, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016. Cooley was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended Wyandotte High School, where he met his wife, Marjorie J. Radford Miller, who passed away, June 13, 1989, one day short of their 46th wedding anniversary.
Cooley and Marjorie graduated high school June 7, 1943, and he was drafted into the Army Air Force. He was in the 8th Air Force and had 24 Bombing Missions over Germany; received two purple hearts.
Cooley had a construction business. He was a good provider. After he retired from construction, he went into Real Estate until he was 83 years old. Cooley and Marjorie’s hobby was collecting Carnival Glass. Cooley held the office of President of the Heart of America Carnival Glass club located in Kansas City. They made many friends over the years going around the country to Carnival Glass Auctions.
Cooley and Marjorie had six children, Janet Zahn, Marsha Horner, Jim (Mary Lou) Miller, Radford Miller (deceased), Patty (Tim) Bredensteiner, and Todd Miller. They had 15 grandchildren: Scott Zahn, Neal Zahn, Jason Zahn, Brooks Crissey, Spencer Crissey, Carrie Cox, Marli Adams, Matthew Miller, Mallory Miller, Amanda Miller, Cassie Kelly, Colby Bredensteiner, Danielle Creek, Julia Sharma, Dustin Miller. They had 15 great grandchildren: Taylor Zahn, Berkeley Zahn, Camden Zahn, Mikaela Zahn, Kennedy Zahn, Hunter Zahn, Parker Zahn, Logan Cox, Hannah Cox, Leah Cox, Andi Adams, Avery Adams, Amelia Adams, Kaspian Creek, Ezekiel Creek.
Cooley is survived by his long term companion, Betty Brainerd, since 1989. He and Betty attended the Village Presbyterian Church, in Prairie Village, Kansas.
Cooley had many friends, both young and old and he loved to tell his stories of World War II and his adventures. He will be missed by all who knew him.
