Clyde Jones

December 22, 1936 — October 23, 2017

Clyde LaVerne Jones, 80, of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 playing the game that he loved. He was born December 22, 1936 in Murphysboro, Illinois to the late Arch and Ethel (Deason) Jones.

Clyde worked for AT&T and Sprint as an Engineer. He served as an Electronics Technician in the Navy Air Division. Clyde was an avid baseball fan, especially the Cardinals. He would occasionally root for the Royals when the Cardinals were down and out, but it brought him great joy to stir up the crowds while wearing his Cardinals gear. Not only did Clyde watch baseball, he played ball as well for over 75 years.  He even earned the Wes Weddle Spirit of the Game Award just last year.  Clyde retired from baseball at the age of 60 (after his team won the Men's Sr. Olympics) and moved on to softball where his team won the MSBL World Champs in 1996 in Phoenix.  He continued softball in the capacities of pitcher, 1st baseman and team manager.  On the evening of his death he was playing catcher for the Antiques.  Clyde didn’t think it was a good day unless he came home dirty from sliding into base. In addition to baseball, Clyde was also a fan of the St. Louis Blues Hockey team and played competitive volleyball. He was always happy and a joy to be around. He loved to eat, try new restaurants and specially loved to film his grandsons as they perfected their own accomplishments.

In addition to his parents, Clyde is preceded in death by his Uncle Clyde.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kaaren; daughter, Terry (Jones) Spicer; son, Steve Jones and wife Kathy; grandsons, Matthew Rains and Ryan Jones; sister, Marilyn Morton; niece, Laura Griffin; Aunt Loretta; cousin, Craig Deason and many extended family and friends.

A memorial gathering will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 10:30 AM-12 PM with a memorial service beginning at 12 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1441 NE Englewood Rd., Kansas City, MO 64118.
