Charles "Ray" Withrow, 85, Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, September 5, 2011 from cancer. Ray was the youngest of six children born March 24, 1926 in Kansas City, MO. Upon graduation from Southeast High school he joined the U.S. Navy. He served his country proudly during WWII as seaman second class on the U.S.S. Laporte APA 151. He married the love of his life, Doris "Dee" Withrow, on October 24, 1947. Three beautiful children were born of this union. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was a successful business man. He started his own comp-any and was owner/operator of Western Engineering & Supply Co. in Kansas City, MO. Ray loved Arizona! He and his wife traveled there as "snowbirds" for over 25 years. They made some wonderful friends along the way. He Loved playing tennis and golf and was a proud member of the "Sunshine Boys Tennis Club." He was also a member of St. Therese Parish. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and twin sons: Chuck and Ray Withrow. He is survived by his brother, Owen Withrow; his daughter, Sondra Gardner (Gary); his granddaughters, Sherri Presko (Tim); Jodi Flathers; Tiffany Mead and a grandson, Shane Withrow. Also five great-grandchildren, Brieanne; Garrett; Luke; Zoe; and Addie and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Crossroads Hospice and his other caregivers, Kathy (Granny); Gidget (Buddy) and Nick (Sammy). The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday Sept. 9 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park.
