Charles W. Dakin

Charles “Charlie” W. Dakin went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2024, at the age of 79. His kindness and gentle strength touched the hearts of many.

 Born on October 25, 1944, in Smithville, Missouri, Charlie was the son of Paul and Verda Dakin. After his father returned from the war, the family moved to St. Joseph, where Charlie spent over twenty years of his life. Charlie attended Benton High School where he excelled academically and participated in football and cross country. He later pursued a degree in civil engineering in college.

 In St. Joseph, Charlie met Sharon, and they married, starting a family together. His career took him to Kansas City in 1972, where he and Sharon built a life for 54 years until her passing.

 Charlie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City for many decades, serving in various roles and forming lifelong friendships.

 An outdoor enthusiast, Charlie enjoyed bike riding, hiking, and kayaking. However, his favorite moments were spent with family and friends at “the farm” in Polo, Missouri, where he enjoyed riding ATVs, camping, and simply relaxing. The farm held a special place in his heart and provided many wonderful memories.

 Though he was a man of few words, Charlie was known for his intelligence and quick wit. He was kind, had a servant’s heart, and was unwavering in his faith. His gentle spirit will be deeply missed.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Verda Dakin; his wife, Sharon; and his brother, Paul Eugene.

 He is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Chris) Martin and Kerri (Scott) Akeson; grandchildren Cameron (Melody), Zachary, Marin, and Ben; and his brother, Steve (Teresa) Dakin.

 Services to honor Charlie’s life will take place on October 11, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City (2205 Iron Street, North Kansas City, MO 64116). Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City Benevolence Fund or KC Pet Project.
