Carolyn Newburn

Carolyn Newburn (87) of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully at St. Luke's North Hospital on August 4th, 2022.

Carolyn was born in Belleville, Illinois on November 28th,1934 to the late Jesse Laverne and Edgar Noble Sanford. She attended Boonville High School in Boonville, MO and Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO.

After college, she moved to Kansas City, MO and worked for AT&T as a secretary. In 1968 she married Larry Lynn Newburn and soon after they welcomed their daughter, Andrea. Over the years Carolyn worked as a legal secretary, administrative assistant and file clerk. Her last position was with AT Industries, where she worked until 2020 at the age of 85.

Anyone who knew Carolyn understood what a unique person she truly was. She loved holidays and any excuse to celebrate and give gifts. If there was a festival in town, she would be there riding the Ferris wheel, eating a corn dog and listening to music while sitting in the beer garden. As a fastidious lover of lists, here are some of Carolyn’s favorite things:

Pigs, pigs and more pigs!
Big firework displays
Writing poems and songs, both serious and silly
Jewelry – “Dad got a tool; I get a jewel!”
Taking pictures of literally EVERYTHING. No one was safe.
Antiques and old things
Playing her flute – when she was able
Animals, especially cats.
Trees – she’d cry over a tree being cut down
Gossip – hearing it but NEVER spreading it.
Correct grammar – especially the difference between “bring” and “take”

But what she loved most was her family. Carolyn, affectionately known as “Caca” by those close to her, is survived by her husband, Larry Newburn; her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Keith Kitelinger; her granddaughters, Emma and Claire Kitelinger; her future grandson-in-law Nicholas “Nicky” Gresham; and her younger sister Ann Zink.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn is proceeded in death by her younger brother Joseph Sanford.

Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Friday, August 12th, 2022, with visitation from 11:00am-12:00pm, immediately followed by funeral service, burial and a small reception.
