Carl Frederick “Fred” Osterstrom, of Kansas City, MO passed away on December 20, 2020.
Fred was born on March 11, 1939 in Kansas City, MO to Carl and Mildred (Wine) Osterstrom. He graduated from Westport High School in 1959. He was a very quiet man and loved to read. Fred would walk to the library every day, but never come home with a book. He would spend his day reading the books at the library before returning home. His favorites were histories. You could find him reading about wars and political history. Along with reading, movies were a favorite pastime of Fred’s. Fred lived by the plaza and would often attend movies at the theatre during his daily trips for lunch. Before moving in with his sister and brother-in-law, he never cooked. He would always find a café or restaurant to eat at. One of his favorites was going to The Elm’s for Thanksgiving dinner where he would often have two or three plates. Fred was employed as a mail clerk at Sertoma, one of the oldest service clubs in the US. After 47 years of service, he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy Lane and Dr. Marta Renger.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Randy Jessee of Kansas City, nieces and nephews, and friends.
