Bruce J. McNamara passed away September 21, 2017, from complications following surgery.
Bruce was born November 4, 1939, to Dan and Virginia Franklin McNamara. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Park Hill High School in 1957 and had attended Rockhurst College.
Bruce served in the U.S. Army during 1963-65, serving as an instructor at the U.S. Army Ordnance School and Center in Aberdeen, MD. Before and after his military service, he was employed by the Norfolk Southern Railroad (formerly Wabash). He retired in 1999 as Assistant General Yardmaster following 38 years of service.
An avid sports car enthusiast throughout his life, one of his greatest joys was owning and racing a 1960 Elva Courier until an accident ended his racing days.
Bruce was a member of Age and Treachery Racing, Heartland Vintage Racing and the Sports Car Club of America.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kittie Smith McNamara, a brother David, two sisters, Mary Jane Bowling and Melinda Cornett, four nephews, three nieces and several great-nephews and great–nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2017 from 4-6 PM at Cascone's Restaurant, 3737 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64116. Contributions are suggested to a favorite charity or hurricane relief.
