Bobbie Lee McVey

February 23, 1945 — June 10, 2023

Kansas City

Bobbie Lee McVey, affectionately known as Bobo, Bubba, Buttons, and Pockets by his friends and family, passed away June 10, 2023. Bobbie was born February 23, 1945, at Governor Davis’ plantation in Bronson, KS to Wayne and Verna (Crone/McVey).

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; son, Lawrence Wayne; daughter-in-law, Amber; son, Shawn; fiancé, Christy; grandchildren, Trenton, Mariah, Seth, Taylor, and Logan; great grandchild, Penelope; and two sisters Sharon and Beverly.

He enjoyed a wonderful childhood. He was passionately loyal to his wife Elizabeth who he married on May 16, 1969. Bobbie swept Elizabeth off of her feet with his incredible sense of humor, kind heart, and of course, love of sports. He affectionately called her “Wibith.”

He was passionate about his fishing trips, hunting, playing cards, his kitten Tuxedo and spending time with his raccoon visitors. The Chiefs, NASCAR, COPS, & the GRIT channel lost their number one fan.

Bobbie served in the United States Navy from March 1963 to March 1966, and the United States Marine Corps from July 1967 to September 1969.

Bobbie was committed to his craft as a mechanic driving and road testing, maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesels. He worked at IML (June 1970-June 1981), Freight Lines (June 1981-1987), PIE Nationwide (July 1981-July 1987), and Signal Delivery Service (October 1987- February 1992). Bobbie delivered produce to local Kansas City restaurants (1992-1999). Bobbie worked as a bus driver for the North Kansas City School District from (August 1999 to May 2010), 9 years of service.

Bobbie touched so many lives with his infectious smile. He served his family and friends with a heart as big as his stature and his larger than life personality.

He will be cremated, and there will be a grave site memorial scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to hospice.
