Bill Calhoun

Billy John (Bill) Calhoun of Gladstone, MO, died peacefully at his house in Gladstone Missouri on October 11th. He was born August 13th 1928, in Liberty township, Daviess County, MO, growing up in Altamont, MO. Bill graduated High School in Gallatin, MO, Class of 1946. He was President of the Senior Class. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17, serving two years. Bill then worked for the CB&Q Railroad until September 1950, when he enrolled in the Kansas City Art Institute, attending one year.

In April 1951, he married Virginia Lou Foley, celebrating 63 wonderful years, until her passing in December 2013. Bill retired from TWA in May, 1991, after 39 dedicated years, advancing from Master Mechanic to Project Engineer. He served 5 years as assistant Scout Master of BSA Troop 271 and was inducted as an honorary warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Bill was deeply devoted to his loving wife and children, and found great joy in numerous vacations with their grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting Morel Mushrooms. He liked to sketch and draw and do lettering for friends.

Bill was a private pilot and in his element when flying his beloved Navion. He and Ginny attended many distant destinations. Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2376.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Ginny, his parents, Glen and Mayme Calhoun, sisters Lucille Kiefer, Charlotte Wilson, and infant sister Carol, and Daughter-in-Law Vicki Calhoun.

Bill is survived by son Danny, Daughter Cheryl, sister Evelyn Kenney, Grandchildren Carly, Clint, Jesse and Maggie, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a kind, generous, and friendly person who cared deeply for others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to North Care Hospice or Wayside Waifs.

In honor and memory of Bill, private family services will be held.
