Betty Macken

February 23, 1931 — August 17, 2022

Betty Jean Macken, 91, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on August 17, 2022. Betty was born February 23, 1931, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to the late Delbert and Pauline McKown. She lived in the Kansas City Northland area her entire life. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1950. Betty met John Macken after his time in the U.S. Army and the two were married on December 17, 1955; together they raised 4 children in a house they built together. Betty was the secretary for the John P. Macken Construction Company for 44 years. She enjoyed spending her free time going to her grandchildren’s activities and shopping, especially for red dresses and anything with bling on it. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden. Even when she was digging through the dirt and weeds, she had on her sparkly jewelry and always had music playing in the background. She and John built a house at the Lake of the Ozarks where the entire family spent many weekends enjoying the lake.

In addition to her parents Betty is preceded in death by her brothers Ray and Bobby McKown. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, John; daughters; Terry West, Denice Ash, Connie Burr and son John P. Macken and her brother Eddie McKown. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, with visitation from 1:00pm-2:00pm, immediately followed by the funeral service at 2 PM and burial at Terrace Park Cemetery.
