Bernice (Funk) Wilkinson went to her home in heaven on February 9, 2015. She was born in Leshara, Nebraska on January 25, 1921, the daughter of Oscar and Lillie Lamuel. In 1940 she married Alva Funk in Fremont, Nebraska. They were married 53 years until his death in 1993. Their marriage was blessed by two daughters. Her daughter, Karol Hicklin, preceded her in death in 2007. Karol's husband, Vance Hicklin, lives in Blue Springs, Missouri. Karen Kay Davis and husband, Gene, live in Pensacola, Florida.
Bernice was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Lamuel and Floyd Lamuel, and two sisters, Elda Lamuel and Ardythe Shad.
Bernice is also survived by Eugene N. Wilkinson (her husband with whom she shared a 16-year love affair beginning with their marriage in November, 1998), two step-daughters, Kay Engle (her husband Buel) and Sharon Miller (and her husband Kenneth) of Deepwater, Missouri, eleven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and fifteen great great-grandchildren.
Bernice’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She did child care in her home for more than fifty children over many years. She was a member of Metro Baptist Church, but her eternal security was found in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, at Terrace Park Funeral Home (formerly Mount Moriah) at 801 NW 108th Street, (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) KC, MO, 64155, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial service will be Friday at 10:30 AM at Metro Baptist Church, 3400 NE 80th Street, KC, MO, 64119.
