Ann Shenkner Niemann, 90 of Kansas City, Mo made her journey to heaven on Saturday December 11, 2021 at her home at Riverstone Retirement Community. Visitation will be at King of Kings Lutheran Church 1701 NE 96th St, Kansas City, MO on January 8, 2022 at 9:30 am followed by the funeral service at 10:30. Graveside services will be held following the service at Terrace Park 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO 64155. Memorial Contributions may be made to King of Kings Lutheran Church.
Ann was born October 22, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Charles Jacquemin (Jack) Shenkner and Reta Belle Ross Shenkner. She grew up in Weston, Mo. Ann started her college education at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO followed by Christian College in Columbia, Mo and finished her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1953. While in Columbia she met her future husband, Bob Niemann. On June 25, 1955 Bob and Ann were united in marriage in Weston, MO and were married for almost 66 years when Bob passed away in April 2021.
Ann’s passion was teaching children. She loved her job as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. She started her career in Kansas City, Mo. then took a break for a few years to raise her family. She resumed her career as a substitute teacher from 1966 – 72 and became a full time teacher in the North Kansas City School district at Gashland and Clardy Elementary school from 1972 - 1997. Throughout this time, Bob and Ann created their home in Hamilton Heights in Gladstone, MO where they raised their two children, David and Nancy, often referred to as “Dancy”. She was a den leader, girl scout leader, party thrower, cookie baker, baseball game watcher, choir concert attendee and anything else her kids were involved. Bob built their home in Trimble, MO and they moved there in January of 1987.
Bob and Ann were able to travel to 6 continents and ALL 50 states. They bought a condo in Breckenridge, CO where Ann was thrilled to entertain her family and friends for 25 years. Ann was an avid Missouri Tigers fan, one of her favorite pastimes was watching Stormin’ Norman’s basketball team. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, baking, cooking, traveling, square dancing, playing bridge, traveling, meeting people (she never met a stranger and knew someone everywhere she went), celebrating holidays and birthdays with her 2 wonderful children and in-laws, 5 loving grandchildren and all of their friends. Bob and Ann were founding members of King of Kings Lutheran Church and Ann enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Niemann, father Jacquemin “Jack” Shenkner, her mother Reta Shenkner, and her brother Ross Othmar Shenkner. She is survived by son David (Tammie) Niemann of Kansas City, MO, daughter Nancy (Bill) Magee of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren Dan (Jennifer) Magee of Lenexa, KS, Sarah Niemann of Denver, CO, Carolyn (Justin) Bell of Mount Pleasant, SC, Emily Niemann, Mission, KS, Rebecca Magee of Mount Pleasant, SC, her loving brother Charles Jacquemin Shenkner of Edmond, OK, 5 nephews and 2 great grandchildren whom she adored. Ann yelled "MIZ" and everyone replied "ZOU"
