Amy was born April 23, 1924 in Marysville, Kansas to William and Anna Marie Hansen. Amy was the second youngest of five children. She was a loving devoted wife and mother.
From Marysville, Kansas, the family move to Lawrence, Kansas in 1928 and then they moved to Kansas
City, Kansas in 1939, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1943. After graduation, World War II was in progress and she sought a job at Western Union Telegraph Co, Kansas City, Missouri. On October 11, 1942, her first day of employment, she met her future husband, Eddie Vaughan. He proposed to her on December 8, 1943 the day before he left with the US Light Equipment Army Engineers, which took him from Canada, Europe, Panama Canal, Okinawa, Fort Lewis, Washington and finally home January 26, 1946.
On February 26, 1946, she married the love of her life, John (Eddie) Vaughan. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1955, they moved to Gladstone, Missouri.
As their children came along, Amy’s love for music gave her the opportunity to share this as a volunteer at St. Charles Catholic School teaching music to the school students. With this exposure to music, Amy started teaching piano/organ from 1957 to 1989 to many students from age four to eighty-four. Amy wore many hats at St. Charles Catholic Church. Until 1963, she was chant choir director and became a Cantor for Mass. In addition to singing at Sunday Mass, she sang at funerals, weddings and anniversaries, but she always said “I love singing at funerals”.
