Alice Louise Richarz passed away on February 2, 2016, in Kansas City, MO at the age of 98. She lived a long, happy life as a wife, mother, nurse, and mentor to her loved ones. Always witty, gracious and blessed with the ability to provide sage advice, Alice will be greatly missed.
Alice was born to Homer and Mata Heitzman on December 21, 1917, in Emerson, NE. Her "younger" twin, Eleanor, still resides in Sioux City, IA. Alice was raised and educated in Emerson, NE, graduating from high school in 1936 and then enrolling in The Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City. She graduated from nursing school in 1939 and enlisted in the Army to pursue her career. She was stationed at the medical hospital in Ft. Meade, SD and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. It was at Ft. Meade where she met Captain Robert H. Richarz of the 4th Cavalry Division. They married in 1941 and remained in the Army until 1946. While in the Army, they enjoyed many stateside deployments. After discharge they settled in Sioux City to raise their family of five children. In 1985 Alice and Bob relocated to Prescott, AZ, where they enjoyed their retirement. Alice recently relocated to Kansas City, MO, to be near family.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1988 and daughter, Margaret, in 2012.
Her surviving children are Lynn (Darrell) Jochum, St. Joseph, MO , Kathryn (Greg) Wells, Kansas City, MO, Bob Richarz , Tracy (Mike) Hintze, Salt Lake City, UT, twin sister, Eleanor Beacom, Sioux City, IA and cousin, Densel Moseman (Muriel), Emerson, NE. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A military ceremony is pending in Prescott, AZ at the National Cemetery.
